Phil & Monique: Letter Labels

FADE IN:

INT. MUSEUM CONFERENCE - GRAB-AND-GO CAFE - DAY

Waiting in a long line for the barista are MONIQUE, exhibition developer wise beyond her years, and PHIL, anxiety-prone independent museum consultant.

PHIL: My client’s exhibition of rare letters isn’t working, and I’m supposed to tell them how to fix it!

MONIQUE: Not working?

PHIL: Their rare letters are handwritten in a foreign language nobody can read. So they added label cards next to every letter. But now the label cards just look like more letters!

MONIQUE: …

PHIL: And the whole display case background is the same beige as the letters. And the new label cards are beige. So now the whole exhibit is beige. Beige!

MONIQUE: Well, clearly, they should add even more beige labels to the existing beige labels that explain the beige letters on the beige background.

PHIL: …

MONIQUE: …

PHIL: Wait. You’re joking, right?

MONIQUE: Duh. But seriously, they should just make all the case backgrounds dark. And make the labels exactly the same dark color as the backgrounds. With white text.

PHIL: …

MONIQUE: Oh, and have all the labels in one band along the bottom, so there are fewer shapes in the case. So now the letters will look great. And the visitors will love it. And this advice is totally worth a coffee.

PHIL: …

BARISTA: What can I get you?

MONIQUE: Venti hot matcha oat latté. He’s paying.

PHIL: … [Reaches for wallet.]

FADE OUT.
