Quick! Complimentary SEGD Memberships for Museum Staff
Did I mention the complimentary one-year memberships yet?
In 2023, the AAM somewhat inexplicably announced that they would dissolve their Professional Networks. These were the subgroups within the organization dedicated to specific interests in the field. One was called the National Association for Museum Exhibition, or NAME.
NAME was a broad community for those involved in exhibitions. When it closed, an attempt was made to devise a replacement of some kind.
Fast forward to September of 2024: I did an episode of the Making the Museum podcast called A New Community for the Exhibition Field, with Cybelle Jones, Steven Rosen, and George Mayer. It’s worth a listen.
Fast forward to now: this new initiative, the SEGD Museum Exhibition Professional Practice Group, or ME-PPG, has a great offer while supplies last:
If you work for a nonprofit museum and need support to join, SEGD has a limited number of grants available to cover a complimentary membership — apply here.
Not ready to commit? Find out more about the SEGD PPG for Museum Exhibition here, including events like a monthly webinar.
Here’s the thing:
OK, I’m biased, but I think a community for the museum exhibition field is important.
Especially with complimentary one-year memberships. Wait, did I mention those?
Warmly,
Jonathan
P.S. LMK if you apply and get one!

MtM Word of the Day:
Accession. The formal process of a museum acquiring and documenting an item that is added to its permanent collection. Once it is added, and all the data about it is filed away, the only way it should leave is through “deaccession,” which is also a formal process.
