Phil & Monique: Free Cheese
FADE IN:
INT. GOURMET GRAB-AND-GO CAFE AT MUSEUM CONFERENCE - DAY
Standing at a counter are MONIQUE, exhibition developer wise beyond her years, and PHIL, anxious independent museum consultant.
MONIQUE: [Chewing] This free cheese isn’t bad. Museums should give out more free cheese. Free cheese never fails.
PHIL: [Stops chewing] Uh, what?
MONIQUE: Metaphorical free cheese, I mean.
PHIL: Uh oh, here we go. [Chews]
MONIQUE: See, usually we consider marketing for exhibitions as separate from exhibitions.
PHIL: Well, duh.
MONIQUE: But why not make the marketing an extension of the exhibition experience, not something totally separate?
PHIL: [Chewing] I’m not following.
MONIQUE: Film trailers aren’t just ads, they are actually little samples of the film. Like free cheese. People happily watch lots of trailers.
PHIL: I get it now. Free cheese isn’t just marketing. It’s also actually, uh, cheese. That you eat.
MONIQUE: Yes! Why not think of exhibition marketing as a sample? Why not have our exhibition team help make the ads, and think of them as free cheese?
PHIL: So, a billboard for an art show could be … actual art in billboard form? Or, a poster about a shark exhibit could be … a mini shark exhibit in a poster?
MONIQUE: [Chewing] Exactly!
PHIL: Huh. Cool idea.
MONIQUE: I need to buy some of this cheese.
PHIL: Free cheese never fails.
MONIQUE: …
FADE OUT.

MtM Word of the Day:
Gesture-based. Media that visitors interact with by moving their bodies or hands, versus touch-based interactivity. A novel choice for certain experiences. Be prepared that some may find it hard to master at first.
